🔧 Repair Overview
Screen Replacement is one of the most common repairs for LG G1. This repair involves replacing the damaged display component with a new or refurbished part. The process typically takes 1-2 hours and requires moderate skill level.
What You'll Need
- Replacement display part (OEM or aftermarket)
- Precision screwdriver set (Phillips #000 or pentalobe)
- Opening tools (plastic spudger, suction cup)
- Adhesive strips or glue
- Clean workspace with good lighting
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1:
With a magnifying glass, take a look at the corner of the screen; you'll see a space where the screen meets the rest of the tablet; the screen is hold in place by plastic tabs; inserting a thin plastic piece or just your fingernail and slowly going along the seam will separate the screen form the back cover, exposing the electronics.
Step 2:
Disconnect battery and USB connectors. This tablet is an electronics masterpiece, so be gently and patient when moving around.
Step 3:
In my tablet the speaker is hold in place by tabs, very easy to remove.
Step 4:
Remove the speaker and the vibration motor in order to expose the ribbon cable beneath. All the components sport contact connectors, very nifty.
Carefully peel away the tape, in order to remove the ribbon cable. Remove the two screws you see in the picture.
Step 5:
Remove the ribbon cable by gently pulling the micro USB connector out of the plastic carcass. The ribbon is held in place by tiny plastic dots and a mild glue; did I mention being gently already?
Remove the battery by going around the border with a thin guitar pick or other plastic tool. Try your best not to bend the battery.
Disconnect the delicate camera connector.
Step 6:
Remove the screws that hold the main board in place. My tablet came with 6 tiny screws.
There's a small rubber seal that tend to get loose from the plastic carcass; take good care of it.
Also exercise careful handling of the main board as it has attached the 8 Megapixel camera lens.
Step 7:
There are now several US and Chinese Ebay sellers offering the whole assembly, so you basically only have to reconnect the ribbon cables, put the screws in place and enjoy your tablet again. I ordered item 172233283111.
