Step-by-Step Process
Step 1:
Position a suction cup securely on the back panel of the device.
Insert the opening pick into both sides of the phone and carefully slide it along to open the back panel of the device.
Do not fully remove the back panel; disconnect the fingerprint sensor first.
Step 2:
Apply gentle pressure to the fingerprint sensor with your finger to detach it from the back panel.
You may need to apply firm pressure to remove the circular sensor from the panel.
Step 3:
Fully remove the back panel from the device.
Step 4:
Using a Torx T3 screwdriver, remove nine 2.2 mm screws.
Step 5:
Use the spudger to gently lift the cover.
If needed, use the spudger's tip against a corner of the cover to help lift it.
Set the back cover aside.
DO NOT use excessive force when lifting up the back cover.
Step 6:
Carefully use the spudger to lift the sensor cable, disconnecting the fingerprint sensor from the motherboard.
WARNING: Handle the sensor cable with care; it can be easily damaged.
Step 7:
Carefully remove the fingerprint sensor from the device and set it aside.
Do not use excessive force when lifting the back cover or any other component.
Step 8: Protective tape
If present, carefully remove the protective tape using a plastic spudger as shown, ensuring the delicate flex cable is not torn in the process.
Be careful to not puncture or bend the battery! If punctured, it could start a fire. This is why we recommend discharging your device below 20% before beginning any repairs. Combustion could potentially cause damage to the device and your skin/clothing.
Step 9: Disconnect the flex cable
Use a plastic spudger or non-conductive [product|IF145-020|tweezers] to disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard.
Ensure the tweezers are not pointed or sharp. Be gentle to avoid tearing the flex cable. This could cause a short-circuit in the battery connector, or scratch and damage traces on the motherboard.
Step 10: Seperate the old battery from the frame
Slide an opening pick under the battery and gently work it back and forth to separate the adhesive from the battery.
This adhesive is quite strong and will require careful attention to apply the correct amount of force to remove the battery without damaging it in the process. Be patient and take it slow.
Step 11: Out with the old, in with the new
Remove the old battery and insert the replacement battery, connecting it to the motherboard.
(Optional) Two-sided tape can be used to secure the battery to the frame if the original adhesive isn't strong enough to keep the new battery in place also.
