🔧 Repair Overview
Battery Replacement is one of the most common repairs for Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 9. This repair involves replacing the damaged power component with a new or refurbished part. The process typically takes 30 min - 1 hour and requires moderate skill level.
What You'll Need
- Replacement power part (OEM or aftermarket)
- Precision screwdriver set (Phillips #000 or pentalobe)
- Opening tools (plastic spudger, suction cup)
- Adhesive strips or glue

Step-by-Step Process
Step 1: Unfasten the back cover
For your safety, discharge the battery below 25% and power down your device before disassembly.
Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to loosen the five captive screws holding the back cover.
Step 2: Release the corner clips
Insert an opening pick between a corner of the back cover and the chassis, near a hinge.
Pry upward to release the retaining clips.
Listen for a click sound when clips release.
Repeat this process for the opposite corner.
Step 3: Release the edge clips
Insert the opening pick between the cover and the body.
Pry upward and release all of the retaining clips.
Step 4: Remove the back cover
Lift the back cover off the chassis and remove it.
If the cover feels stuck to the chassis, use an opening pick to release any remaining clips around the perimeter of the back cover.
Step 5: Unfasten the battery
Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove the six 4.9 mm screws securing the battery to the laptop chassis.
Step 6: Remove the battery
Grip the corners of the battery.
Pull and lift the battery of its recess and remove it.
Be delicate when pulling the battery out at first. The small pins on its connector are easy to bend.
There is no cable for the battery. It disconnects when removed from its recess.
