What You'll Need
- Replacement temperature control part (OEM or aftermarket)
- Precision screwdriver set (Phillips #000 or pentalobe)
- Opening tools (plastic spudger, suction cup)
- Adhesive strips or glue
- Clean workspace with good lighting
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1: Removing the back glass
To start, remove the back glass using the iOpener.
Please be careful not to break the ribbon cable located on the left side of the device when prying open the back glass.
Step 2: Removing the metal shield protecting the motherboard
Undo all 12 screws to remove the metal shield.
Step 3: Disconnecting ribbon cables
Disconnect the ribbon cable that leads to the display with the Spudger.
To avoid damage to the cameras, please disconnect them from the motherboard and temporarily place them in another location, such as a small bag.
Do not shake the bag to avoid damage to the cameras inside.
Step 4: Testing the new display
Connect the new display and power on the phone. If the display works, proceed to the next step.
If the display does not work, you are advised to temporarily stop here and purchase a new one.
Step 5: Removing the battery
Gently pry the battery out of the casing using the Plastic Cards.
Be very careful when prying the battery out of the casing, as you might accidentally puncture it.
Step 6: Removing the old display
Use the iOpener to heat up the edges of the display, then gently pry it up and remove it.
If the glue on your display is already loose, you can skip this step.
Step 7: Removing the adhesive residues
Use the Tweezers (angled or pointed) to remove the adhesive residues created by the display adhesive. To help loosen them, you can use a bit of isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab.
The blunt variant of the Tweezers might not work for removing the adhesive residues.
At this point, you can also clean the adhesive residues created by the back glass adhesive.
Step 8: Inserting the new display
Apply the T-7000 adhesive to the edges.
Insert the new display and connect the ribbon cable to the motherboard.
Make sure that you are feeding the ribbon cable of the display through the small hole.
Use the clamps to secure the screen in place.
You will have to wait around 12 hours to let the adhesive properly secure the display.
Step 9: Inserting the battery
After the T-7000 adhesive fully hardens and secures the display in place, reinsert the battery.
If replacing the battery, you are advised to dispose of the old battery at a dedicated tech recycling center.
At this point, you can now reconnect the cameras to the motherboard.
Step 10: Reattaching the metal shield protecting the motherboard
Place the metal shield in its designated place and fasten the screws.
Step 11: Inserting the back glass
Apply the T-7000 adhesive to the edges.
Reinsert the back glass.
If replacing the back glass, you are advised to properly dispose of it.
Use the clamps to secure the back glass in place.
You will have to wait another 12 hours to let the adhesive properly secure the back glass.
