🔧 Repair Overview
Air Filter Replacement is one of the most common repairs for 2023 Chevrolet Silverado. This repair involves replacing the damaged engine component with a new or refurbished part. The process typically takes 15-20 min and requires easy skill level.
What You'll Need
- Replacement engine part (OEM or aftermarket)
- Precision screwdriver set (Phillips #000 or pentalobe)
- Opening tools (plastic spudger, suction cup)
- Adhesive strips or glue
- Clean workspace with good lighting
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1: Open the Hood
The hood release handle is located on the driver's side to the left of the emergency brake pedal.
Pull on the hood release handle to pop the hood.
To open the hood, reach into the gap at the front of the truck and feel for the latch. Push it to the left to release it and lift up on the hood.
Step 2: Locate the Airbox
The airbox is located in the front left corner of the engine bay.
Step 3: Remove the Airbox Cover
The airbox cover is fastened down with four Torx T25 screws. Remove each one with a Torx T25 screwdriver.
The front right screw is slightly hidden and a bit difficult to reach. You'll need to slide your screwdriver in between radiator hoses in order to reach it.
Step 4:
Grab onto one of the corners on the left side of the airbox cover and pull it up to reveal the air filter inside the airbox.
The airbox cover will still be attached to the air intake hose. This hose is pretty flexible, though, so you'll be able to lift the cover up out of the way just enough to replace the air filter.
Step 5: Remove the Old Air Filter
Grab onto the rubber lip of the old air filter and carefully lift it up and out of the airbox.
There may be leaves and other debris sitting at the bottom of the airbox. Take this time to clean it all out before putting the new air filter in.
Step 6: Insert the New Air Filter
Slide in the new air filter and gently set it into the airbox, making sure that it goes all the way in so that you can close the airbox cover completely.
