Unlatch the hood from the inside of your car.

If you're doing this right after driving your car, turn off the engine and let it cool down before working on it.

Put your fingers under the hood and lift the lever. With your other hand, raise the hood up.

The hood should rest on the support rod on its own; you can now remove the hand that was initially supporting the hood.
