🔧 Repair Overview
Oil Change is one of the most common repairs for 2017 Toyota Corolla. This repair involves replacing the damaged maintenance component with a new or refurbished part. The process typically takes 30-45 min and requires easy skill level.
What You'll Need
- Replacement maintenance part (OEM or aftermarket)
- Precision screwdriver set (Phillips #000 or pentalobe)
- Opening tools (plastic spudger, suction cup)
- Adhesive strips or glue
- Clean workspace with good lighting
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1:
Unlock the latch on top of the rear seats and pull both seats down.
Lift the trunk's carpeting up to reveal the circular hooks attached to the seats' carpeting. Unhook the seats' carpeting from the circular hooks in the trunk, revealing the hinges.
Step 2:
Use a 12mm wrench/ratchet to loosen and remove the bolt on the hinge. Repeat this for both sides of the backseat(s).
Keep the bolts and washers unless broken.
Step 3:
To remove the seat(s), apply downward pressure on the seat back next to the hooks holding the latch and seat together. Slide the hinge toward the trunk to move it out of the way. Repeat for both hinges.
Step 4:
Remove the seat(s) from the car and place them on a towel, tarp, sheet, or blanket to avoid scratching the leather on the asphalt.
Step 5:
Use a 12mm wrench/ratchet to remove the remaining bolt(s) on the hinges.
Remove the hinge.
Step 6:
Bolt down the new hinge to the frame of the car using a new or existing bolt and the 12mm wrench/ratchet.
Be sure to mount the hinge in the same orientation as when it was removed.
Apply a generous amount of torque so that the bolt is firmly tight, but do not over-tighten.
(Bolts can be purchased from Toyota or various resellers)
Step 7:
Insert the seat(s) back into car, making sure that the middle seat belt is not trapped on the backside of the seat(s).
Slide the hinges back over the seat(s), making sure to line up the bolt hole on the seat(s) with the bolt hole on the hinges. Press the seat down to hook the hinges back into the seat.
Step 8:
Bolt down the hinges to the seats using the 12mm wrench/ratchet until they are firmly snug.
Do not over tighten the bolts, as they are easily stripped.
Step 9:
Reverse the removal of the carpeting, making sure to reattach the circular hooks to the seat's carpeting.
Move the seats to an upright position and push them back until the latch clicks and seats cannot be moved forward.
