🔧 Repair Overview
Battery Replacement (Car) is one of the most common repairs for 2017 Subaru Legacy. This repair involves replacing the damaged electrical component with a new or refurbished part. The process typically takes 30 min and requires easy skill level.
What You'll Need
- Replacement electrical part (OEM or aftermarket)
- Precision screwdriver set (Phillips #000 or pentalobe)
- Opening tools (plastic spudger, suction cup)
- Adhesive strips or glue
- Clean workspace with good lighting
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1:
Use a Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove a 5.0 mm screw from the base of the key fob.
Step 2:
Place the flat end of a spudger into the gap between the key blank (metal part) and the case.
Gently pry upward to separate the housing.
Step 3:
Once the case comes apart, turn the key upside down, and the keyless fob should easily come out.
Step 4:
Use a spudger or your fingernails to pry open the four clips securing the keyless fob.
Ensure that you pinch the fob on the side, not the top, during the opening to avoid accidentally re-securing the clips.
Step 5:
Gently slide a spudger beneath the battery to lift it from the case.
Replace it with a new CR1620 3V lithium coin battery.
Reassemble the key fob.
