🔧 Repair Overview
Battery Replacement (Car) is one of the most common repairs for 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. This repair involves replacing the damaged electrical component with a new or refurbished part. The process typically takes 30 min and requires easy skill level.
What You'll Need
- Replacement electrical part (OEM or aftermarket)
- Precision screwdriver set (Phillips #000 or pentalobe)
- Opening tools (plastic spudger, suction cup)
- Adhesive strips or glue
- Clean workspace with good lighting
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1:
Pull the black lever to the left of the brake pedal and then lift the latch on the very front end of the hood to open the engine bay.
Locate your car battery.
In this model, the battery will be underneath this cover in the upper right corner of the engine bay.
Step 2:
Using a socket wrench, loosen the 10mm nut on the positive (red) side of the battery.
You will be able to pull the cable off of the terminal when the nut is loose enough.
Step 3:
Pull up on the positive (red) battery cable from the terminal to remove it.
Let the cable rest on the side.
Step 4:
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the negative (black) side.
Step 5:
Remove the hard outer casing around the battery and set it aside.
If you're having trouble removing the outer casing, focus on releasing the clips along both sides and the bottom front side.
Step 6:
Remove the soft inner casing and set it aside.
The soft inner casing is between the hard casing—that you just removed in step 5—and the battery itself.
Step 7:
Locate the lower stability bracket on the lower left side.
It looks like a nut and is nestled on the left side of the battery.
Step 8:
Use a 13mm socket to remove the stability bracket.
For this removal, using a long socket and socket extender is helpful.
Step 9:
Lift the handle on the battery and pull to remove it.
Step 10:
When replacing the battery, make sure your stability bracket aligns with a groove on the bottom lip of your new battery.
The stability bracket will only fit into one of the grooves, so don't worry about choosing the wrong groove.
