🔧 Repair Overview
Oil Change is one of the most common repairs for 2012 Ford Focus. This repair involves replacing the damaged maintenance component with a new or refurbished part. The process typically takes 30-45 min and requires easy skill level.
What You'll Need
- Replacement maintenance part (OEM or aftermarket)
- Precision screwdriver set (Phillips #000 or pentalobe)
- Opening tools (plastic spudger, suction cup)
- Adhesive strips or glue
- Clean workspace with good lighting
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1:
Run the engine for a few (~5) minutes, then turn it off.
This allows the oil to drain easier.
Do not work on the car while the engine is running.
Step 2:
Take off the oil cap from under the hood of the car.
Step 3:
Place the oil drain pan underneath the drainage bolt.
Step 4:
Remove the drainage bolt using the 15mm wrench.
Step 5:
Allow the oil to drain into the oil drain pan.
This may take several minutes.
Step 6:
Remove the old oil filter with the oil filter wrench once the oil has completely drained.
Step 7:
Put a thin film of oil around the edge of the new oil filter.
This allows for a better seal once the new filter is attached.
Step 8:
Attach the new oil filter using the oil filter wrench.
Step 9:
Reattach the drainage bolt with the 15mm wrench.
Step 10:
Place the funnel into where you removed the oil cap and pour in approximately four (4) quarts of oil.
Step 11:
Check the dipstick and ensure that the fill level is between the two holes. Add more oil if needed.
